Hamilton Gallery countdown to our St Brigid’s Day exhibition at 12 Star Gallery, Europe House London, is underway.

The exhibition will open to the public from January 23rd and run until February 1st, St Brigid’s Day, and it is part of the Irish Embassy in London’s St Brigid’s Day Celebration of Women and creativity.

In the run up to our opening night in London we bring you a daily blog with a selection of the 90 works by Irish women artists that will be shown at the exhibition.

We will include interviews and insights from the artists involved as well as other news and developments relating to events at the 12 Star Gallery in London which will occur in compliment to the exhibition.

Tonight our artists are Brid Mac Conville, Deborah Lee, Dorothee Kölle, and Catherine Mac Conville.

We also include the poem “In My Darling Liza’s Eyes” by Leland Bardwell. Lelands poem “St Brigid’s Day 1989” was circulated to all participating artists as the thematic inspiration for the exhibition.

Brid Mac Conville. Dublin born. Lived in diverse cultures of Canada and Japan. Honours graduate (painting) 1984 Emily Carr College of Art & Design, Vancouver Canada.  Living in Ireland on the northwest coast since 2000.

Deborah Lee.   I am an artist based in Sheffield, working primarily with mixed media to produce abstract art. My influences are taken from my love for exploring  the sensation of mark-making. I enjoy creating compositions that relate to the energy and space within and around objects, landscapes and seascapes. Colour is used as a code or language to express my emotional response

Catherine Mac Conville

Catherine Mac Conville was born and grew up in Dublin and studied design at NCAD. She moved to the north west and graduated with a Diploma in Fine Art from IT Sligo. “Below an image of her mother and her mother's sisters she inscribes names all the women in her family circle, from Bridget Campbell, born 1784, to Luisa Carroll, born November 2018. A celebration of each of them under the mantle of St Brigid.”
