"This body of work focuses on suburban space, in particular, the fragmented spaces of memory. The man-made and natural environment combine to give a feeling of domestic space and place. Some familiar details such as windows, doors, steps and pathways are retained, which help to create a sense of interior and exterior. Shadows and reflections reinforce the illusion of layered space. Images can be broken down into abstract planes and patterns and yet still remain recognizable. Familiar objects can trigger past perceptions and the viewer populates each work with his or her own previous experiences. The end result is a series of imagined and remembered spaces." - Mary Burke

“Four Eyes” was an expletive regularly aimed at the short-sighted when I was at school, the typical retort being “Four eyes can see better than two”. Better than my two anyway, I might have added. Previous art practice involvedthe use of prescription lenses. This time, the glasses are off. Without spectacles, my world glares. From an observational point of view, boundaries between figure and ground subtly blur. Light dances, shadows merge. Time to attempt to capture a sense of this fuzzy-edged world the way I see it. - Annie Harrison
