This new film work titled Monk by sculptor Bettina Seitz opens at the Hamilton Gallery on the 3rd of August as part of Tread Softly Festival.
Commissioned by Tread Softly for its 2024 festival and supported through an Arts Council Commissions Award, the film reflects on the rituals of early Christian monks living in isolated, monastic settlements off the west coast of Ireland from the 6th century.
Monk is the final part of a trilogy of film collaborations between Seitz and videographers Peter Martin and Fionn Rogers, following on from Underwave (Seitz/Rogers 2020) and Ancestors (Seitz/Martin/Rogers/2021). Sound design is by Joe Hunt.
Monk is presented as a continuous running installation throughout the day
