Artist Statement
Through my art I explore themes of identity, self-esteem and self-confidence. My work incorporates biographical detail as a way of processing and documenting significant life events. Nature and landscape are incorporated as symbols of hope, nurturing and belonging.
In my subject matter I continually attempt to unify nature and humanity. I confront strong themes around self-identity with a thoughtful process, inviting the viewer to investigate a multi-layered narrative, teasing out various strands surrounding the question of ‘nature versus nurture’, evaluating how I see myself as an artist, and have become the person I am today.
My sculptures, paintings and poetry celebrate the sanctuary in finding compassion, community and connections through our interactions with people who have had similar life experiences. My intention as an artist is to create a dialogue between viewer and sculpture challenging us to face our own vulnerability and celebrate our resilience in times of adversity.
My preoccupation lies in how we can be formed and shaped almost like a sculpture by words, attitudes, people around us, the world of nature & places of origins.
Through my evolving work I capture the surreal & sublime aspects of the human condition and the interplay of the fragile worlds we occupy.
