Sisters Susan and Elizabeth Yeats were in the vanguard of the revival of Irish art and artisan crafts in the early part of the last century. As print artists they published many of the great Irish writers of their time including their brother W.B. Yeats, through their printing company Cuala Press. Elizabeth also authored a number of stunningly illustrated books on how to paint flowers using water colours.
To celebrate the legacy of these unique women Hamilton Gallery in association with Craftfest Northwest, Yeats Day, Tread Softly Festival, Sligo County Council Arts Service and the Western Development Commission, is hosting 'Legacy' a national Fine Art Print Competition. The prize fund for the inaugural iteration of the competition is €1,000, sponsored by the Western Development Commission.
The two category winners (Professional Artist & Student Artist) were announced and presented with their awards by Caitriona Yeats, on Saturday June 11th in The Hyde Bridge Gallery, Yeats Memorial Building Sligo.
