After completing his studies , Patrick spent the decade of his twenties living in Boston , London , and then Madrid , primarily in order to work and travel , but also to be able to study the work of the Old and Modern Masters in a direct and sustained way in the museums and galleries of those cities , which was a formative experience for the artist . Since becoming a full-time artist in 1996 , Patrick’s work has been featured in twenty solo and numerous group exhibitions .
About the exhibition : “To the Sea”
“The sea and the coast are ongoing sources of inspiration for my artwork , and in some respects I think our relationship to the sea is one of the fundamental human experiences On one level , I think the sea and the coast are places we relate to in terms of our direct experience of them , yet I think they also reside in the human mind and experience somewhat autonomously of our direct experiencing of them , as places of the human imagination , or even also on symbolic or metaphorical levels .
Where land meets sea , and the built structures which evidence the human presence within these coastal terrains , are also of great interest to me as an artist . In my recent work , the lighthouse , the tower , and other structures are places I find very striking visually and thematically , yet which also seem to have a presence in their own right . “
