St Brigid's Well

Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin with Susan MacKay

A film created for the annual Lá Fhéile Bríde / St Brigid's Day global Irish Festival

This film is a celebration of the life and career of Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, in interview with journalist and author Susan MacKay. Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin is a poet, translator and editor. A Fellow and Professor of English (Emerita) at Trinity College, Dublin and a member of Aosdána, she served as Ireland Professor of Poetry from 2016-2019.

In 2022 Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin was elected Saoi of Aosdána. A ceremony presided over by President Michael D. Higgins to confer the symbol of the office of Saoi, the gold Torc, on Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin took place on 17 November 2022.

The opportunity to create this film arose from the exhibition of new artworks by Irish women artists, who were responding to a poem specially commissioned from Eiléan by Hamilton Gallery, titled "St Brigid's Well". **

Film production: Omedia.
